CALEDONIA — Caledonia High School won the prestigious Class 4A Blue Cross & Blue Shield Mississippi All-Sports award this week, the Lowndes County School District announced on Wednesday. The award is given for each classification to schools that perform at a high level in all sports offered by the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
Caledonia finished atop the 4A standings with 205 points, narrowly beating out West Lauderdale, to bring home the school’s first All-Sports award. Several Cavaliers teams made playoff runs, and the school won state titles in boys and girls track and field to help boost their overall score.
“We are immensely proud to announce Caledonia High School has been recognized with the MHSAA Class 4A All-Sports Award for 2023-2024,” principal Gregory Elliott said of the honor. “This prestigious honor is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our exceptional coaches and student-athletes.”
Caledonia scored in 14 of the 22 sports measured in the competition, reaching at least the quarterfinals in the state tournaments for volleyball, football and softball, finishing third in girls powerlifting and runner-up in girls cross country, and bringing home state championships in both boys and girls track and field.
Boys track and field coach Chris Harlow won Mississippi Association of Coaches’ Boys’ Track Coach of the Year award for the team’s success in 2024.
“This year has been truly remarkable for our school community,” Elliott continued. “Not only have we achieved the All-Sports Award for the first time, but we also were named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School and received an A rating. These accomplishments reflect the unwavering commitment to excellence that defines Caledonia High School. Together, we have shown that when we strive for greatness, we can achieve extraordinary things. Go Cavaliers!”
