Mississippi State basketball head Coach Chris Jans has added to his staff.
According to CBS College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein, Alex Barlow is set to join MSU as an assistant coach.
Barlow is going from Bulldogs to Bulldogs after serving three seasons as an assistant at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Butler finished its season in postseason tournaments twice, the NIT in 2024 and the College Basketball Crown in 2025.
Before working as an assistant at Butler, Barlow spent over half a decade in the Boston Celtics organization. He worked with the Celtics as a video assistant from 2015-17, and worked with a rookie Robert Williams during the 2018-19 season.
He also spent five seasons with the Maine Celtics, Boston’s G-League affiliate, including one year, 2022-23, as head coach. Barlow won 30 games as head coach.
Barlow played four years at Butler from 2011-15. In his senior season, Barlow averaged nearly nine points per game and started 34 contests.
Barlow joins a staff looking to bounce back from a rough season. The Bulldogs finished the year 13-19, 5-13 in the SEC.
