A second suspect in a Sept. 28 shooting that killed a teenager is in custody, Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Bryan Moore confirmed to The Dispatch.
Larone Scott Baity, 18, of Columbus, turned himself in to CPD at about 11 a.m. Thursday, Moore said. He is charged with murder and is in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting his initial court appearance.
When officers arrived at the scene on Constance Lane in East Columbus on Sept. 28, they found two juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the teens, Marquez Carter Jr., 16, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 17, was taken to Baptist Memorial-Golden Triangle.
Police arrested the first suspect, Jakody Moore, 19, of Columbus, on Oct. 2 after the initial investigation revealed he and a second suspect drove to Constance Lane and opened fire. He was charged with murder and aggravated assault.
At that time, CPD released a photo of an unidentified person of interest, who police later identified as Baity.
Moore said the investigation into the shooting remains open, but he was unsure if there will be any more arrests or additional charges.
