WEST POINT – A suspect is behind bars after three victims were injured Wednesday in an alleged stabbing.
Derek Summerall, 44, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a weapon.
Officers responded at about 10 p.m. Wednesday to reports of an alleged stabbing on Lee Street, according to a Thursday press release from West Point Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers found one victim suffering stab wounds and immediately rendered aid until paramedics arrived on scene. After canvassing the area nearby, officers found two other victims suffering from stab wounds.
Two of the victims were taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, while the third was taken by personal vehicle to another hospital for treatment.
Police Chief Michael Edwards did not know the conditions of the three victims as of Thursday afternoon.
While the motivation behind the incident remains undetermined, Edwards said statements provided by the victims helped investigators narrow in on Summerall as a suspect in the alleged stabbing.
Summerall was arrested Wednesday at his home and booked into the Clay County Detention Center. His bond had not been set as of press time Thursday.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact WPPD at (662) 494-1244 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
