LOUISVILLE — The wait for a win at Heritage Academy is over.
The Patriots got back to winning ways on Friday in a dominant fashion, defeating Winston Academy 50-25 on the road thanks to some suffocating defense and a high-firing offense. It is the program’s first win since 2022, and the first win under head coach Tobias Smith.
“The maturity and the growth of these boys is everything, man,” Smith said after the game. “I give it all to them, it’s our first win but it’s the first of many. Like I said in the huddle, we’re not stopping and our goal is to get that gold ball at the end of the season.”
Senior Adyn Westmoreland was a standout on the night for the Patriots with big plays on both sides of the ball. He scored three touchdowns on the ground with over 100 yards rushing and added a 2-point conversion along with some bruising tackles and pass break ups on defense.
The Patriots kept firing on offense from start to finish with quarterback Thompson Regimbal tossing three touchdown passes, two to Charlie Fowler and one to Xzavier Webber. Lineman Radarron Leech got in on the scoring as well, adding a touchdown in the fourth quarter out of the heavy goalline package to seal the deal for Smith and company.
The Patriots suffered a heavy 49-7 loss against one of the best teams in the state last week at Hartfield Academy, but the response on Friday showed an ability to execute that was lacking last season.
“We won’t always be a young team and we won’t always be weak,” Smith said of the team’s growth over the past year. “With the way these guys work and the way they grind, I give it all to them. From when the season ended last year until now their growth and maturity and production and confidence has been huge. Because of that, we won.”
