OKTIBBEHA COUNTY – An early morning house fire claimed a man’s life Friday morning on Curtis Chapel Road.
The deceased was identified as James Byron Speed, 64, who lived at the residence, according to information from Coroner Michael Hunt.
East Oktibbeha volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze at about 2:08 a.m., County Fire Services Coordinator Patrick Warner said. The fire was extinguished with the help of crews from Bell Schoolhouse and District 5 Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as Starkville Fire Department.
The blaze destroyed the home, and Speed’s body was discovered at about 6 a.m., Warner said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
