Sophomore Marie Rougetget made Bulldog track and field history on Thursday.
The thrower from Chalindrey, France, spun, and launched the hammer in the third round. As soon as it left her hands, Rougetet yelled in jubilation and watched it fly. She had just had one of the biggest throws in Mississippi State history.
Rougetet’s 69.71m mark earned her a bronze medal, and a spot on the podium at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Rougetet also earned first-team All-American honors.
Her throw was a five-meter and 14-place improvement from her performance in the NCAA Outdoor Championships last year. Her throw only fell to a 73.19 mark from Texas State’s Elisabet Rut Runarsdottir and Minnesota’s Anthonette Nabwe’s 73.15m throw.
Rougetet is the first Bulldog to earn a podium finish in the hammer and earn First Team honors in program history. She is the second All-American for State in program history and the first to earn the distinction in 14 years.
Sophomore Nelly Jameli also competed in her second NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday. Jameli ran a 9:58.86 in the 300m steeplechase, failing to qualify for the finals today.
