That jarring pothole on the way to work could soon be replaced by a fresh sheet of paving.
The City Council has approved the list of 70 roads that will be paved, striped or repaired this year by Falcon Contracting at a cost of $2,227,872.
Mary James, whose Bell Avenue block is on the list, said her road has been patched up several times and “has needed it for a little while.”
“Oowee, yes, it needs it bad. Really bad,” she said. “My driveway floods and the pavement”s cracking. It looks bad.”
Although Falcon Contracting hasn”t given a schedule to the city yet, City Engineer Kevin Stafford said several projects would be underway at once at different parts of town.
Falcon has 150 days to complete the contract, which went into effect this month.
In addition to laying down 54,298 feet of paving, the company will also make 1,239 sidewalk repairs, add 77 ADA-required ramps and repair a curb.
Carol Perkerson, whose block of 12th Street North is also scheduled to be paved, said there were many houses in her area “definitely in need of (paving).”
“There might be others that are a whole lot worse than mine, but it”s got its potholes and age on it,” she said.
Some of the major roads slated for paving are Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from Fifth Avenue North to Highway 182; Fourth Street South, from the railroad tracks up to Main Street; Shady Street, from Fourth Avenue North to Marvin Street; and Old Aberdeen Road, from Hospital Drive to Lincoln Road.
