WEST POINT – An alleged drive-by shooting Tuesday left one man dead and sent another victim to the hospital, Police Chief Michael Edwards told The Dispatch.
Officers responded at about 9 p.m. Tuesday to a 911 call reporting shots fired on Meadowbrook Circle. At the scene, officers found a 23-year-old man dead in the driver’s seat of his car.
Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter identified the victim as Kolby Gann and said he died from an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators believe the gunshots stemmed from a drive-by shooting, Carter said, but it’s unknown at this time if Gann was the intended target or a bystander.
Another victim was shot during the incident and taken to North Mississippi Medical Center to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury, Edwards said.
No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. Edwards declined to comment further on whether the department has any suspects or persons of interest in the investigation at this time, but said the department is working all leads.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact West Point Police Department at (662) 494-1244 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151
