CLAY COUNTY – A 15-year-old has been arrested for the murder of a man found dead Tuesday behind his residence along Mississippi Highway 46.
Asenyon Walker, of Clay County, was arrested at about 10 p.m. Thursday. He is charged with murder and set to be tried as an adult, Sheriff Eddie Scott told The Dispatch Friday.
Earvin Kirkwood Jr., 67, went missing Sunday. Investigators, sweeping his property with a drone Tuesday, found his body. He had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Scott said that Walker knew the victim, though he declined to speculate on a motive at this point.
Scott said he does not believe there is further danger to the public from this case.
The investigation is ongoing. Scott said he did not know at this time whether more charges would be forthcoming.
“We’ve got a whole lot of information waiting at the crime lab,” he said. “We’re still very early into it.”
Walker is being held at the Clay County Detention Center. He was arraigned Friday afternoon, with bond set at $650,000. Scott also said Walker would be required to wear an ankle monitor if released.
