STARKVILLE — Starkville softball made quick work of Winona on Friday, defeating the Tigers, 15-4, in five innings at home.
The Yellow Jackets recorded 10 hits in the win and benefitted off five Winona errors. Starkville starter Olivia Mattison threw a complete game in the win, giving up two earned runs and striking out six in five innings of work.
Starkville hosts Meridian in its next game at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

New Hope 5, Houston 4, Saturday
NEW HOPE — New Hope scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Houston, 5-4, on Saturday.
A stolen base and throwing error from Houston were crucial in the seventh as well as a big hit from Caiden Chain for the Trojans (15-4).
New Hope travels to play Saltillo in its next game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Starkville 11, Oxford 10, Friday
STARKVILLE — Starkville baseball defeated Oxford, 11-10, in walk-off fashion on Friday in district play.
The Yellow Jackets (10-6, 2-4 in district) put together a pair of five-run innings, including starting the game off with a five-run first. Kieran Coleman was the hero in the seventh with a walk-off single.
Starkville will travel to play Grenada in its next game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Nettleton 13, Heritage Academy 3, Saturday
NETTLETON — Heritage Academy baseball lost to Nettleton, 13-3, in five innings on Saturday afternoon.
Despite recording seven hits offensively, with junior Spenser Singley having a three-hit day and an RBI, the Patriots (10-10) struggled on the mound, giving up seven runs in the first inning as Nettleton scored in all five innings on Saturday.
Heritage Academy will host Washington School in its next game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
