COLUMBUS — Two Mississippi University for Women athletes were honored with St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday. Men’s golfer Zach Riley and baseball two-way player Landon Clark were recognized after winning performances over the previous week of action.

Riley, a Hernando native, was recognized after his dominant performance at the Spalding Preview at Timbergate. He registered his best performance with the Owls, topping the individual standings with a 36-hole score of 6-under-par 138, helping to secure a team championship in the overall standings.

“These were Zach’s lowest rounds in a tournament while being at the W,” head coach Benji Williams said of Riley’s performance. “It’s great to see him put two days together and win this tournament.”
For the W baseball team, Clark had a standout week on the mound.
Clark allowed just five hits in 7.2 shutout innings against the formerly undefeated conference-leading Spalding, striking out a joint season-high eight batters on the way to a 3-0 win.
Clark made another appearance out of the bullpen in an 11-7 win at Eureka College on Saturday, allowing one hit in two innings of work with three strikeouts.
Though not recognized as Hitter of the Week, Clark did have a successful week at the plate as well. He registered hits in four out of five games, including three multi-hit games and three RBI.
