SENATOBIA — For the first time since 2017, Starkville Academy are Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 5A, District 1 champions.
The Volunteers won a defensive slugfest against Magnolia Heights on the road on Friday night, 12-10, to secure a district crown. That win also secured Starkville Academy the No. 1 overall seed in the Class 5A playoffs and a first round bye.
The Vols have a much-needed week of rest before facing the winner of Stillman Institute/Leake Academy next Friday.
Noxubee County 46, Southeast Lauderdale 6
MERIDIAN — Noxubee County improved to 2-1 in district play and 5-4 overall with a dominant 46-6 win over Southeast Lauderdale on the road on Friday night.
The win was crucial for postseason seeding as the Tigers are now second in their district with one game remaining. Noxubee County hosts a one-win McLaurin team in its regular season finale at 7 p.m. Friday.
Caledonia 39, Greenwood 16
GREENWOOD — Caledonia got back to winning ways on Friday, snapping a two-game losing streak with a 39-16 road win over Greenwood.
It’s the first district win of the season for the Cavaliers (4-4, 1-2 in district), who have just one district game remaining, Friday night’s regular season finale against Houston, who are currently 2-1 in district play.
Kickoff begins at 7 p.m. Friday.
Ridgeland 27, Columbus 26
RIDGELAND — Columbus narrowly missed out on its first district win of the season, losing a 27-26 thriller on the road against Ridgeland on Friday night.
That is now back-to-back one-point losses for the Falcons following a 25-24 overtime loss against Neshoba Central two weeks ago. Columbus fell to 0-3 in district play and 1-8 overall.
The Falcons host Vicksburg in their next district game at 7 p.m. Friday.
Clarksdale 35, New Hope 7
NEW HOPE — New Hope failed to pick up its first district win of the season on Friday night, losing 35-7 at home to Clarksdale.
The Trojans are now 0-8 overall and 0-3 in district play with two games remaining to potentially sneak into the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A playoffs.
New Hope looks for its first win of the season on the road against Lafayette at 7 p.m. Friday.
Lee Academy 60, Oak Hill Academy 16
CLARKSDALE — Oak Hill Academy lost its final regular season game on Friday against Lee Academy, 60-16, in Clarksdale.
The Raiders (3-7, 2-2 in district), despite losing their last four games of the season, snuck into the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 4A playoffs as the No. 11 seed thanks to two early-season district wins.
OHA will travel to play Winston Academy in the first round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday.
Humphreys Academy 66, Hebron Christian 26
PHEBA — Hebron Christian’s season ended on Friday as the Eagles lost 66-26 at home against Humphreys Academy, barely missing out on reaching the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 1A playoffs.
The Eagles finished their season with a 2-7 record, the most wins in a season for Hebron since the 2020 season where they went 3-8.
Marshall Academy 46, Columbus Christian Academy 22
STEENS — Columbus Christian Academy scored a season-high in points on Friday, but lost in its regular season finale to Marshall Academy, 46-22.
The Rams (0-10) had nearly 300 yards of total offense in their most complete offensive performance of the year, with Ja’Mario Latham leading the team with 201 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
