GLADEWATER, TX — The Mississippi University for Women saw both its men’s and women’s golf teams in action this week, competing in the Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate tournament in Texas.
The men’s golf team finished in second place in the team rankings at the tournament. The team finished at +26 collectively, trailing behind tournament hosts LeTourneau in the standings, with senior Zach Riley securing a top five finish at 2-over par through three rounds.
Matthew Phillips (T-11th), Spence Davis (14th), Luke Yocum (T-15th) and Matt Wilkinson (T-19th) also placed in the Top 20 of the individual leaderboard.
Sara Grace Ramey finished in 18th in the women’s individual leaderboard as the top-performing Owl from her team for the weekend.
The Owls golf teams will travel to Arkansas for their next tournament at the Scots Invitational hosted by Lyon College on Sept. 23, and then the Oglethorpe University Fall Invitational on Oct. 7.
Fundraiser details set
MUW golf is also set to host the Owls Athletics Golf Outing on Oct. 18, a fundraiser event that allows donors to compete at Elm Lake Golf Course. All proceeds will benefit the university’s athletics programs.
“Your day will include breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and juice to start the day, as well as nice gifts at registration (7 a.m.),” according to a university release. “The event will tee off at 8 a.m. with hot dog snacks served during the round, along with beverages on the course. There will be hole-in-one prizes on all par-3 holes. A boxed lunch from our friends at Zachary’s and a brief awards ceremony conclude the outing.”
Registration for the event can be found at http://www.owlsathletics.com/OwlsGolf.
