Tennis
The Owls tennis teams traveled to Elsah, Ill., for Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at Principia College. Due to inclement weather, the games were moved indoors, but the W men were able to pick up their first conference win of the season.
As a team, the men won 6-1 over Westminster College, taking two-of-three matches in pairs play. Paul Gaines and Jaylen Lewis won their match 6-4 while Jasper Poag and Trevor Davis earned a 6-1 win.
Lewis, Poag and Davis also won their respective singles matches along with Luca Suggs and Tyler Bailey to get the men’s team in the win column in conference play.
The women’s team traveled to compete but were shorthanded with only four players available. Emma Horton and Brooklyn Ward registered a win in doubles while Ward also picked up a singles win, but the team fell to 0-4 after a 2-4 loss in team scoring.
The Owls will return home for their home finale on April 18 versus Huntingdon College in what will also be Senior Day for the MUW tennis squad.
Track and field
The W’s track and field teams traveled to Georgia this weekend to compete in the University of West Georgia Legends Invitational meet. The men finished 16th and the women finished 12th in the overall team rankings, but three school records were set along with some performances that would pace other St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents.

Distance runner Hannah Owens finished fourth in the 5000-meter event with a time of 21:06.11 minutes, the highest finish of the weekend for the Owls and the best of any SLIAC school.

Teammate Arie’Onna McCollum registered a fifth-place finish in the javelin event and a ninth-place finish in discus.
For the men’s team, freshman Cortland Earl registered a 10th-place finish in the 400-meter hurdle with a time of 58.61 seconds, a new personal, school and SLIAC-best time.
