No. 6 Ole Miss notched its 10th double-digit scoring game of the season Tuesday night, run-ruling Memphis 10-0 in seven innings at FedExPark. The Rebels (25-7), winners of three games in a row overall, completed their season sweep of the Tigers, having defeated them in Oxford 7-5 in March. Ole Miss scored at least one run in each of the first six innings.
Memphis (12-20) batters struck out 11 times and walked just once.
Senior Gunnar Dennis started for Ole Miss and pitched four scoreless innings with five strikeouts and no walks. Sophomore Hudson Calhoun, sophomore Patrick Galle and junior Sam Tookoian pitched an inning each in relief. It was the second shutout for Ole Miss’ pitching staff this season.
Senior right fielder Ryan Moerman led the Rebels with three RBIs and a pair of doubles.
Five straight Ole Miss batters reached in the top of the first inning with two outs, leading to a pair of Rebels runs. Junior third baseman Luke Hill singled in a run in the second, and the Rebels scored two more runs in the third on a sacrifice fly from Moerman and an RBI groundout from sophomore catcher Austin Fawley. A sacrifice fly from junior first baseman Will Furniss made it 6-0 in the fourth inning.
With runners on second and third and no outs in the fifth, Fawley hit a ball to shortstop that was misplayed by a handful of Memphis fielders and resulted in two runs scoring. Freshman designated hitter Hayden Federico later drove Fawley home. Moerman put the game into run-rule territory with an RBI double to the left-center wall in the sixth.
