BILOXI — Mississippi State men’s golf completed the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational in Biloxi on Wednesday, finishing third out of 12 participating teams.
No. 2 Auburn cleaned up at Fallen Oak Golf Course, finishing 21-under as a team, 19 strokes better than second-place (and third-ranked) Ole Miss to take the crown.
Despite shooting 6-over as a team in the third round on Wednesday, the Bulldogs comfortably secured third place, shooting 1-over as a team for the tournament.
“I’m obviously disappointed in how we finished today,” head coach Dusty Smith said in Wednesday’s press release. “We had a solid round going, but we didn’t finish like we know how to do. In golf, you have to be locked in the entire round.”
Junior Josep Serra paced Mississippi State, shooting 6-under over his three rounds of play. He finished tied for third on the individual leaderboard with Ole Miss’s Michael La Sasso.
After shooting 12-under in the first round, Mississippi State shot 13-over combined over the final two rounds of play.
“We need to own how we finished and get better from it,” Smith said. “As long as we are learning, then we will keep on growing. I have a lot of belief in this group and know we will continue to be humble and hungry in our pursuit up the mountain.”
MSU’s final tournament of its fall schedule will be at the Kapolei Invitational in Honolulu, Hawai’i in late October/early November.
