A man is behind bars after allegedly shooting three women Wednesday at a residence in East Columbus.
Eugene Henley, 69, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of possession of a weapon by a felon, according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
Officers responded Wednesday to reports of multiple gunshot victims at a residence in the 2600 block of Sixth Avenue North, the press release said.
Upon arrival, the three adult victims were found and taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with non-life-threatening injuries.
The victims identified Henley as the alleged shooter and provided police with a description of his vehicle and possible location, according to the press release. When officers arrived at the location, a residence in the 200 block of 19th Street South, several people in the home exited and confirmed Henley was inside.
After “several” unsuccessful attempts to make contact with Henley to remove him from the residence, CPD’s SWAT Team arrived on scene and found the suspect hiding in the attic, the release said. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Cpl. Nicholas Hairston, public information officer for CPD, did not respond to calls or texts from The Dispatch before press time Thursday requesting clarification on the time of the shooting.
Henley is being held at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center without bond.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to contact CPD at (662) 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
