Mississippi State men’s basketball is set to play a preseason exhibition against national finalists Houston in Rosenberg, Texas on Oct. 26, sources confirmed to The Dispatch on Thursday. The Bulldogs and Cougars will meet as part of an exhibition double-header, with Texas A&M facing Arizona State in the other game.
The exhibition games will take place at the Fort Bend County Epicenter and will be open to the public. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Etix.com. Tip-off times have yet to be announced.
The Bulldogs are entering their fourth season under head coach Chris Jans, who 63-40 record with the program. Jans has led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament and won exactly 21 games in each of his three seasons in Starkville, but has yet to win a postseason game.
Houston are led by veteran head coach Kelvin Sampson, a 14-time national coach of the year. Sampson has led the Cougars to seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four appearance in 2021 and a national championship game appearance in 2025. Sampson also led Oklahoma to the Final Four in 2002.
The Bulldogs will begin their regular season on Nov. 5 against North Alabama at Humphrey Coliseum.
