Four-star defensive lineman Jaden Bayonne used one of the oldest tricks in the book during his commitment ceremony on Friday.
Bayonne unzipped his black jacket, revealed a white Syracuse polo, and grabbed the orange hat off the table. Just as he was putting on the hat, Bayonne shook his head, and set it down. His wry smile, and the sleeves of a black t-shirt peeking through his Syracuse shirt hinted something was up.
He took off the polo, revealed a Mississippi State shirt, grabbed a cowbell, and officially announced his commitment to the Bulldogs’ 2027 class.
Bayonne, from Alexandria, Louisiana, is the third-highest rated recruit in State’s 2027 class and the biggest get on the defense for Jeff Lebby so far this recruiting cycle. Sam Spiegelman, a national recruiting reporter for On3, said Bayonne has played just one season of varsity football and is “just scratching the surface” of his talent.
“He is big, strong, can move people off the ball,” Spiegelman said on the Rivals Signing Day Special where Bayonne announced his commitment. “We are talking about a prospect who is going to play his best football when he’s getting coached by (defensive line coach) Ty Warren and Jeff Lebby in a couple years.”
He had 37 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and five sacks last season at Alexandria High School. He is rated the 13th best player in Louisiana in the class.
He is the 16th commit in State’s 2027 class. MSU’s class is ranked 43rd nationally and 16th in the SEC.
