Mississippi State continued its offseason roster overhaul, bringing in Achor Achor in the transfer portal on Friday.

Achor most recently played at Kansas State, where he was dismissed from the Wildcats’ roster after seven games last year for “conduct detrimental to the team.” The year prior, he had an excellent season at Samford, averaging 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. The 6-foot, 9-inch wing from Melbourne, Australia, attended Greenforest McCalep Academy in Georgia and played his first two years at Chipola College in Florida.
During that 2023-24 season at Samford, Achor shot 58.6 percent from the floor, and while he was not a volume 3-point shooter, he was a very effective 43.5 percent from behind the arc.
Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang said in December that Achor left the program for personal reasons.
“Achor and I have decided that there are more important things than basketball for him at this time,” Tang said. “I hope some time away will allow him to reprioritize things in his life and allow him to finish his degree.”
Achor is the fifth player head coach Chris Jans has added in the portal this spring, joining Ja’Borri McGhee (UAB), Quincy Ballard (Wichita State), Amier Ali (Arizona State) and Sam Walters (Michigan). The Bulldogs will need plenty of production from those newcomers after losing nearly every rotation player from this past season, pending star guard Josh Hubbard’s decision on the NBA Draft.
