The Mississippi State football team is hitting the road for the first time in 2021.
The Bulldogs took on Memphis on Saturday from Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. Kickoff was at 3 p.m. on ESPNU.
6:42 p.m. — Final: Memphis 31, Mississippi State 29.
6:36 p.m. — Touchdown, Mississippi State. Makai Polk hauls in a 36-yard pass from Will Rogers. The two-point play is no good as Rogers tries to run for it and comes up short. Memphis 31, MSU 29, 1:32 left in the game.
6:34 p.m. — Field goal, Memphis. The Tigers’ Joe Doyle nails a 51-yarder. Memphis 31, MSU 23, 2:02 left in the game.
6:27 p.m. — A successful onside kick by MSU is nullified by illegal touching, which is overturned on review. But an illegal block forces a rekick, and Memphis secures the football.
6:16 p.m. — Touchdown, Mississippi State. Malik Heath with a 9-yard touchdown catch. After a holding penalty, Will Rogers is sacked on the two-point try. Memphis 28, MSU 23, 3:03 left in the game.
6:06 p.m. — Touchdown, Memphis. Calvin Austin III with a 94-yard punt return touchdown on a ball Mississippi State thought it had downed in Memphis territory. Memphis 28, MSU 17, 5:36 left in the game.
5:59 p.m. — Touchdown, Memphis. Calvin Austin III with a 25-yard touchdown on a well-designed play to put the Tigers ahead. Memphis 21, MSU 17, 7:48 left in the game.
5:42 p.m. — Mississippi State’s drive stalls in Memphis territory. The Bulldogs punt to the Tigers’ 15-yard line with 11:48 left in the game.
5:33 p.m. — At the end of the third quarter, Mississippi State leads Memphis 17-14. The Bulldogs have the ball.
5:21 p.m. — The attendance at the Liberty Bowl is announced as 43,461.
5:12 p.m. — Touchdown, Memphis. Calvin Austin III grabs a 21-yard touchdown pass from Seth Henigan. MSU 17, Memphis 14, 6:20 left in the third quarter.
5:02 p.m. — After first-and-goal at the 3-yard line, Mississippi State’s drive stalls. Will Rogers fires incomplete on fourth-and-goal, and the Tigers take over deep in their own territory.
4:56 p.m. — Memphis goes for a fourth-and-1 at the 34. Seth Henigan’s pass is picked off by Emmanuel Forbes, who takes it into the red zone at the Tigers’ 14.

3:47 p.m. — On third-and-8, Makai Polk comes down with a deep ball despite being bracketed by two Memphis defenders. MSU is at the Memphis 32.
3:42 p.m. — Memphis goes for it on fourth-and-3 at the MSU 25, and quarterback Seth Henigan fires incomplete. It’s a big stop for Mississippi State.
3:36 p.m. — End of the first quarter: Memphis 7, Mississippi State 3. Starkville’s Rodrigues Clark lowers the shoulder on an MSU defender on his first official carry. Memphis has third-and-3 from the 25 when we start the second quarter.
3:27 p.m. — Field goal, Mississippi State. Nolan McCord nails a 39-yard kick. Memphis 7, Mississippi State 3, 3:20 left in the first quarter.
3:10 p.m. — Touchdown, Memphis. Woody Marks fumbles on third-and-1, and the Tigers’ Sanchez Blake Jr. takes it into the end zone for a 49-yard touchdown. Memphis 7, MSU 0, 12:02 left in the first quarter.
3:05 p.m. — Memphis’ Noah Grant kicks the ball short to Dillon Johnson, and he’s tackled at the 28.
3:03 p.m. — Memphis won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Mississippi State will receive.
3:01 p.m. — Mississippi State takes the field at the Liberty Bowl.
