As the high school volleyball regular season comes to an end, the Golden Triangle is well-represented in the Mississippi High School Activities Association playoffs.
Four schools – Starkville, New Hope, Caledonia and West Lowndes – qualified for postseason play.
The Yellow Jackets are part of the inaugural Class 7A playoffs in Mississippi, finishing the regular season with an 8-23-1 record overall. Starkville was 6-10 at home, defeating notable district opponents in Murrah and Clinton in order to clinch a playoff berth.
Starkville travels to play Lewisburg in its first-round matchup at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Patriots were 29-7 overall this season.
New Hope returns to the Class 5A once again after finishing the season 21-18, including two signature wins over Caledonia. The Trojans finished 5-3 in district play to comfortably secure a spot in the playoffs.
The Trojans will host Canton in their first round matchup at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Canton finished the regular season with a 10-7 record.
Caledonia is the highest-seeded team of any in the Golden Triangle, finishing the regular season as the top seed in Class 4A Region 3. The Cavaliers were a perfect 8-0 in district play, finishing the regular season with a 26-10-1 record.
They will host Itawamba Agricultural in a first round matchup at 6 p.m. Saturday. Itawamba was 13-7 in the regular season.
Last, but certainly not least, is West Lowndes, hosting a playoff match for the first time in program history at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Panthers, who finished 7-7 in the regular season and 3-3 in district play, are set to host Jumpertown, who was 6-10 in the regular season.
