The East Mississippi Community College men’s rodeo team recorded its best finish of the season last weekend, placing in third at the 57th Annual University of Tennessee Martin Rodeo. The three-day event was held at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex, hosting members of the Ozark Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
The Lions accumulated 435 total points in Martin, picking up 340 of those in the team roping event. Waylon Buskirk and Kannon Nunnery totaled 260 points collectively, finishing as runners-up in the event, and Tyler Brooks added another 80 in his performance in tandem with Southern Arkansas University’s Drew Dollar.
Carson Powell added another 95 points in his fourth-place performance in the steer wrestling competition.
The Lions currently rank sixth in the Ozark Region team standings with 1,867 points. The team will close out the regular season this week at the three-day Ranger Rodeo tournament hosted by Northwest Mississippi Community College at the Lawrence “Bud” Young Arena in Senatobia.
