BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi State men’s golf team placed ninth in the Southeastern Conference Match Play event held at Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala., earlier this week.
The Bulldogs finished 3-under as a team in stroke play, led by junior Josep Serra, who shot 6-under in the proceedings.
Serra set a new career-low round in Birmingham, shooting a 6-under on Tuesday which tied teammate Hunter Logan for the lowest individual round of any Mississippi State player at SEC Match Play.
“I’m really proud of Josep and how he played today,” head coach Dusty Smith said in Tuesday’s release. “His round was huge for our team. He did a great job staying in the moment and trusting himself out there. We have a tough matchup with LSU tomorrow in match play. We need to be excited to compete and adjust our mindset to match play now.”
Serra finished 15th individually, the lone top-20 finisher for the Bulldogs. Garrett Endicott was MSU’s second-lowest scorer, shooting 4-under as he finished 24th.
In Wednesday’s match play round, the Bulldogs defeated LSU, with Endicott and Logan joining Ben Lovelard in notching individual victories. Mississippi State will next compete in the Blessings Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Oct. 2-4.
