LOWNDES COUNTY – A Columbus man was arrested Thursday for allegedly holding his girlfriend against her will in his residence for four days.
Emerson Samel Rodriquez, 33, is charged with kidnapping, according to a press release from Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, the victim was taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where officers were dispatched regarding a possible kidnapping.
At the hospital, the victim told officers Rodriquez, her boyfriend, held her against her will from Sunday until Tuesday, threatening her with a 9mm gun – firing it on two separate occasions – to keep her from leaving. The victim said she convinced Rodriquez she needed immediate medical attention, and he allowed her to be taken to the hospital, said the press release.
Based on the information, officers obtained arrest and search warrants for Roderiquez.
LCSO’s SWAT Team responded Thursday to Rodriquez’s residence on Mike Parra Road, where officers surrounded the house, the press release said. With no response to calls for Rodriquez to leave his home, SWAT deployed chemical agents into the house. Rodriquez left the residence and surrendered.
Officers allegedly found the 9mm handgun in the house, the press release said.
Rodriquez is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, where he remains in custody. A bond has not been set.
This investigation is ongoing, anyone with information related to this case is asked to call Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at (662) 328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
