Mississippi State Baseball is bringing in another freshman All-American through the portal.
Two-way player Josiah Overbeek, who pitched 21.0 innings and had 17 home runs in his lone year at Army, announced his commitment to State via Instagram on Tuesday. He joins Georgia Southern transfer Brady Christman as the second freshman All-American to commit to MSU from the portal.
Overbeek was Army’s best hitter in 2026, leading the Black Knights in batting average (.314), slugging percentage (.712), RBIs (44) and home runs (17). The Patriot League Freshman of the Year started in 45 games for Army, and also spent time on the mound. He appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen with a 5.57 ERA.
State’s 2027 lineup now hosts three freshman All-Americans. Overbeek and Christman will join MSU standout Jacob Parker in Starkville. The trio had a combined 47 homers and 150 RBI in 2026.
Overbeek is the fourth transfer head coach Brian O’Connor has added this offseason. Overbeek joins Christman, infielder Jake Souders from Samford and pitcher Zach Russell from South Carolina.
