The Mississippi State women’s golf team finished its season in the fourth round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships on Monday, falling short of the cutdown to eight teams for the match play portion of the event
The Bulldogs carded a team score of 26-over par across four rounds of play.
The Bulldogs reached the postseason for a fifth consecutive year with their selection to the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional, advancing to the NCAA Championship for a fourth consecutive year.
The Bulldogs have reached the final round of stroke play at the championships in each of the past three years.
Sophomore Avery Weed was MSU’s top performer at the tournament and finished tied for 10th in the individual standings, posting three rounds under par over the four days. Weed, a 2024 All-SEC Freshman Team selection, led the tournament after shooting a three-under-par 69 and a four-under-par 68 across the first two rounds, before falling back on Day 3 after shooting a four-over 76 Sunday. She rebounded Monday with another under-par round to finish in the top 10.
Senior Chiara Horder finished the fourth round at 1-over par and concluded the tournament at 2-over, marking her third-best tournament score for the season. She ends her career with the Bulldogs on a high note, placing 24th in the individual leaderboard.
Teammates Samantha Whateley, 75th, Izzy Pellot, 78th, and Ana Pina Ortega, 89th, also competed for the Bulldogs. Ortega, a focal point for the Bulldogs this year, earned 11 par-or-better rounds and four Top-20 finishes.
Arkansas sophomore Maria Jose Marin won the individual championship with a four-round score of 12-under, while Stanford led by an astonishing 21 strokes heading into the match play portion of the event. The Cardinal have claimed two of the past three women’s titles.
