For the second straight year, the Egg Bowl will be played on Black Friday rather than Thanksgiving Day, this time kicking off at 11 a.m. to help kick-start a busy college football slate.
Mississippi State will host rival Ole Miss in the 121st all-time meeting between the in-state foes. The Bulldogs have lost four of the last five, most recently a 26-14 defeat last year in Oxford. The Rebels defeated MSU 17-7 in the 2023 game, the most recent edition at Davis Wade Stadium.
Both teams will have their second bye week of the season the week before the Egg Bowl, which is scheduled for Nov. 28. Later that day, the Bulldogs’ men’s basketball team will host SMU at Humphrey Coliseum in the back end of a home-and-home series. MSU defeated the Mustangs last November in Dallas.
Head coach Jeff Lebby’s second season will begin on Aug. 30 at Southern Miss, with the home opener the following week against Arizona State. The Bulldogs host Alcorn State and Northern Illinois to wrap up non-conference play, and have home games against Tennessee, Texas and Georgia in addition to Ole Miss. MSU’s four Southeastern Conference road opponents are Texas A&M, Florida, Arkansas and Missouri.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-10 season in 2024, their first winless SEC campaign since 2002. Ole Miss finished 10-3 last fall, missing out on the 12-team College Football Playoff but ending its season with a win in the Gator Bowl.
