A survey was done. The MSMS students overwhelmingly want to stay put. Perhaps the only ones who want to move are those whose parents live in Starkville. Of course, no one in the legislature asked them.
MSMS, in spite of its physical neglect (the fault of its leaders, not The W), has proven itself in an almost miraculous way — finding itself in the top handful of such schools in the entire country nearly every year. The campus setting and scholastic atmosphere are the main reasons for this. This achievement is all the more remarkable in that the school is in a state infamous for its K-12 incompetence.
The panelists who will apparently decide things, weirdly, declared that the newly-built facilities would be better than the sad housing at MUW. Well, duh! They seem to ignore that bringing MSMS’s infrastructure up to snuff would be far cheaper than the MSU plan.
Let us not forget landscaping! A verdant environment is one of the rubrics. Can anyone remember the landscape of their high school? Other than the parking lot and football stadium?
I think the fix is in. As one mayoral candidate puts it, if the deck is stacked, the rubrics selected will be the ones that favor the MSU plan.
Landscaping?
