It is a complaint we are accustomed to hearing from time to time: “There’s just nothing to do around here.”
We believe a more accurate complaint is, “I don’t know what there is to do around here.”
Contrary to what you might believe, the Golden Triangle has an abundance of entertainment options, many of them free. Mississippi State and Mississippi University for Women have countless events that are open to the public, while individual organizations provide a host of events as well. Every week, there are opportunities for recreation, theater, art, music, farmers markets, craft shows and other attractions.
But you can’t enjoy events you don’t know about.
While these activities are promoted by the organizations that sponsor them, there is no central location where events can be found.
Until now.
The Dispatch has created a new events section whose goal is to provide a comprehensive list of the many activities across the Golden Triangle, complete with dates and times, locations, ticket/contact information and a brief description of the event.
Golden Triangle Events is available on the Dispatch website at cdispatch.com/events. You don’t need an online subscription to access it. It’s a free service. The print edition will include select events posted on the website.
As of today, our calendar provides information on 12 events this week alone, everything from Independence Day celebrations and fireworks shows to blues festivals and farmers market, stock car racing to barbecue cook-offs, even free Spanish classes. You can search for a specific event or find out what’s happening on a specific day.
We urge any group that is planning a public event to submit information by emailing details to [email protected].
We believe there are almost always more things to do than you may realize.
We’re here to help make sure you don’t miss out.
