An old proverb writer once said, “When you find yourself in a hole looking for a way to improve your legacy, the best thing to do is stop digging.”
If I was a city councilman who just got beat, not in a general election but by members of my own party in a primary election, I think I would understand that the voters wanted to replace me. Then I’d start looking for a new job. Definitely would not start making motions to send me on a free steak/lobster eating sightseeing trip to D.C. If I thought my life would come to an end if I didn’t go on a free trip to D.C., I’d go purchase a round-trip ticket for me and my wife to depart the first of July and return after celebrating Independence Day or when we ran out of our vacation money.
My advice to those who made the motion and voted to waste more of our tax money is to withdraw the motion and all the votes in favor of it. Then try your very best to humbly bow out.
