America has had a rich history of prayer since the founding fathers sought God’s help in establishing this nation in 1776. As we celebrate the 250th birthday of this blessed country we also recognize the 75th year of the annual National Day of Prayer. This day is set aside by congress and presidential proclamation; a special day for citizens to earnestly offer prayers for America.
The local observance of the May 7th event will begin at noon on the lawn of the Lowndes County Courthouse with praise music and prayers led by area Christians. Seating will be available. Plans are to close Second Avenue in front of the courthouse to traffic, but cars and vans can enter to discharge passengers. In case of rain, the event will move to the YMCA gymnasium, 602 2nd Ave. N.
For the fifteenth year the Christian Community in Prayer Committee, a group of local Christians who believe in the power of corporate prayer, has sponsored the Columbus-Lowndes observance of the National Day of Prayer. We look forward to seeing our neighbors at the Courthouse on May 7th where we will join with others across America as we openly pray and seek His face. A blessed privilege not granted to all believers.
