Thank you for mentioning the role of the Preservation Society of Columbus in helping to present a broader representation of the history of Columbus. We are indeed striving to portray the entirety of those who built our community. From spotlighting Disney artist Josh Meador to dramatizing the possible connection of The Haven to the Underground Railroad conveyed superbly by Bernard and Luberta Taylor, the Preservation Society is working to promote the richness of our community heritage. We are by no means alone in our efforts.
Chuck Yarborough and the MSMS students, the grants being written by Susan Wilder for the city, the even-handed efforts of the CVB and Main Street Columbus, and the Missionary Union Black Church History Project, to mention a few, will yield rich results, adding to the spirit of community and shared history.
That said, there is also a place for tourists to experience the “Romantic South”, to walk through homes large and small from many years ago, and to hear the stories of families. One Columbus Italianate cottage is steeped in family memories, warmly related by Sid Caradine. The Amzi Love Home, after 75 years of receiving visitors during the Pilgrimage, will close after Saturday’s 2-5 p.m. tour. The Preservation Society is proud to salute Brenda and Sid for their service to Columbus. Congratulations are in order also to Kristy and Aaron Lorenz on the 200th anniversary of their home, Kidd’s Tavern. Columbus is indeed fortunate to have an old and rich history, and the Preservation Society is very pleased to have a part in celebrating it.
Thank you for the thoughtful editorial.
