A Columbus woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal a gun from another person at the Sandfield One Stop on Friday afternoon.
Aajha Denman, 19, was charged with strong armed robbery Friday, after CPD officers responded at about 4:30 p.m. to a call reporting a gunshot victim in the gas station at the corner of Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
CPD Public Information Officer Bryan Moore told The Dispatch Monday that Denman attempted to take a gun from a man at the store. After a struggle over the gun, the man shot Denman multiple times in her leg, he said.
Denman was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle to be treated for her injuries, a Monday press release said. No one else was injured, Moore said.
Denman had her initial court appearance Monday, and bond was set at $50,000. Moore said Denman is being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
CPD is still investigating the incident, and more charges may follow, according to the press release. Anyone with information should contact the Columbus Police Department or call Golden triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
