STARKVILLE – A woman was arrested following a Thursday night shooting in north Starkville that resulted in no injuries.
Nykhira Singleton, 26, was charged with felony malicious mischief, discharging a firearm in city limits and several traffic warrants.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired at 8:17 p.m. at Brookville Garden apartments on Everglade Avenue. There, a yellow Ford Ranger was found damaged by gunshots.
Singleton, who was not on scene when officers arrived, later turned herself in to police for firing into an unoccupied vehicle, according to Sgt. Brandon Lovelady, public information officer for Starkville Police Department.
Lovelady told The Dispatch that Singleton and the owner of the vehicle knew each other prior to the shooting and confirmed Singleton had no intention of harming anyone.
Singleton is being held at Oktibbeha County Jail. Her bond is set at $5,000.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to contact SPD at (662) 323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
