A party in Oktibbeha County ended in gunfire early Saturday morning, leaving a man shot in the leg.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shots fired call at about 1 a.m. to a large party on Shepard Road, according to a Saturday afternoon email from OCSO Capt. Brett Watson to media outlets.
Deputies determined that there was an exchange of gunfire between party goers, which resulted in an adult male being struck. The victim was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama with an injury to his leg, Watson said.
Watson told The Dispatch in a text message Saturday afternoon that further information on the condition of the victim was not yet available.
Deputies also found several victims with non-life-threatening injuries that had been struck by a car, and determined that a vehicle accidentally struck them as the driver fled from the gunfire. The other victims were released at the scene.
The sheriff’s office is investigating leads in the case, Watson said.
Anyone with information on the situation can contact the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office at (662) 323-2421 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 530-7151.
