OKTIBBEHA COUNTY — A man was arrested Monday for allegedly committing sex crimes involving a child and assaulting an Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Javon Byrd, 20, of Starkville, is charged with sexual battery, enticement of a child, computer luring and simple assault of a law enforcement officer, according to an Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office press release.
On Sunday, deputies received a call about a juvenile missing from the area. It was determined the minor may have left with a suspect from Oktibbeha County, the press release said.
The juvenile was found Monday morning with no injuries, Captain Brett Watson told The Dispatch. The investigation led to Byrd, who assaulted a deputy as he was being arrested.
Byrd is being held at Oktibbeha County Jail with a $80,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing, the press release said. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department at (662) 323-2421 or (662) 324-8484.
