A Columbus man has been arrested after allegedly robbing two people at the Waffle House in Columbus, according to Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Johanah Owusu.
Officers responded to the restaurant, 1205 Highway 45 North, a little after 2 a.m. Sunday, Owusu said, after a report two people had been robbed at gunpoint.
The victims had already left the scene, but witnesses gave a description of the suspect and officers quickly located him at the Motel 6, which is beside the eatery, Owusu said.
Quavis Shawnterris Betts, 28, was arrested while trying to go inside his unit at the motel, Owusu said.
Betts was charged with two counts of armed robbery, simple assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Owusu said the assault charge came from Betts “twisting” an officer’s finger while he was being detained.
Owusu declined to say what Betts stole from the victims, citing the ongoing investigation.
Betts was still in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center at press time.
