Two men suspected of shooting at a Northside apartment Wednesday are behind bars.
Marteze Oneal Meeks is charged with two counts of possessing a stolen firearm and a count of firearm possession while out on a felony bond, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. Enry Darryl Meadows also is charged with one count of possessing a firearm while out on a felony bond.
Both suspects are 17.
Police responded to the 1600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at about 7 p.m., where a female told officers someone fired shots at her apartment as she was entering, the press release says. A witness in the area told police a male ran into a home on the 1500 block of 24th Street North, just a block to the west of the alleged shooting.
CPD SWAT served a search warrant at the address, finding six males and several firearms. While all six males were taken to CPD for questioning, officers only arrested Meadows and Meeks.
More charges may follow, the press release says. No one had been charged yet with shooting at the apartment as of press time Thursday.
Meadows was out on bond on a murder charge for the November 2023 shooting death of Labronze Moore, 17, at the victim’s home on North McCrary Road in East Columbus. He is one of six facing a murder charge in that case.
A grand jury has indicted Meeks on two aggravated assault charges in Lowndes County, CPD Public Information Officer Bryan Moore told The Dispatch.
That’s why both teens in this case are being charged as adults, he said.
