Candidates have only 11 days left to qualify to run for two seats on the Lowndes County School Board up for election in November.
So far, there have been no takers. Not even the incumbents.
The deadline to qualify for either the District 3 or 4 seat is 5 p.m. Sept. 6. Robert Barksdale represents District 3, while Wesley Barrett represents District 4.
To qualify, candidates must have lived in their respective voting district for at least two years prior to the election and gather at least 50 signatures from registered voters from their voting district.
Lowndes County Circuit Clerk Teresa Barskdale, Robert’s wife, said Monday that some prospective candidates, including both incumbents, had picked up qualifying paperwork and were gathering signatures. No one had turned in paperwork with signatures as of press time Monday, she said.
The election is Nov. 5.
