A New Hope woman has been charged with child abuse after she was caught operating an unlincensed child care facility in her home.
Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies arrested Kelsey Perry, 29, of Shirley Drive, on Tuesday, according to a sheriff’s office press release issued Wednesday.
Perry had been operating the child care business from her address since at least July, the press release said. Last week, she was reported to the Mississippi State Department of Health, Licensure Division, which sent her a cease and desist letter.
On Monday, investigators received a report that prior to receiving that letter, on about July 23, Perry had mistreated and abused at least one child under her care, according to the press release. LCSO head of investigations Darrell Nabors confirmed to The Dispatch Perry was charged with one count of felony child abuse but did not release information about the victim, including the child’s age.
Perry is in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Her bond has not been set.
