Main Street Columbus is hosting a Boo Bash on Thursday, a new event designed to get downtown in the Halloween spirit.
The Boo Bash will run from 5-8 p.m. and will include a costume contest, story time, trick-or-treating with downtown merchants and more, according to a Main Street Columbus press release. Downtown stores will be open late and offer “spooky” deals as well during the event.
“We are excited that the newly-revitalized Leadership Plaza will be available to get everyone into the Halloween spirit! Come downtown and enjoy this new event in Columbus,” Barbara Bigelow, executive director for Main Street Columbus, said in the release.
Attendees are encouraged to dress up to participate in trick or treating downtown starting at 5 p.m. There will be a costume contest for both kids and adults, but participants must register online by Sunday to enter. The sign-up link is available at columbusmainstreet.com.
There will also be a carved pumpkin contest with a $5 entry fee on the corner of College and Fifth street. Attendees are encouraged to carve pumpkins at home and bring them to the Witch’s Hut, where it will be lit and displayed throughout the event. Paying participants’ pumpkins will be judged, with the winner taking home a prize. Participants will then take their pumpkins home when they leave.
Starting at 6 p.m., there will also be a special story time with Miz Witch (Columbus-Lowndes Public Library’s “Mother Goose,” Edwina Williams) at the Rosenzweig Arts Center. The story will include a very kind witch, her beastly friends and a midnight adventure.
Attendees are also encouraged to shop at downtown businesses, open late for special hours, according to the release.
