A woman is in custody for a weekend fatal shooting in Macon, but police believe they found the murder weapon at a Columbus residence.
Ciera Latham, 30, of Macon, is charged with murder and aggravated domestic violence in connection to the death of Brianna Franklin, 23, according to Macon Police Chief Davine Beck.
It appears Latham followed Franklin to a parking lot near the Mississippi Department of Human Services building in Macon, Beck said, and shot her in the head through the passenger side window of her car at about 2 a.m. Saturday.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation contacted Columbus police with information on a possible location for Latham, according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
At about 8:42 a.m. Saturday, Columbus police officers secured a residence on Sydney Loop where Latham had been staying, while MBI executed a search warrant, seizing a firearm and a vehicle at that location.
Beck said law enforcement believes the gun was the same one used in the murder.
Latham later turned herself in to MBI for questioning, after which she was arrested and charged. She is being held at the Noxubee County Jail. She has been denied bond.
