Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science senior Grace Ann Courtney, of Wiggins, was named the 2025 Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi at the annual state program Saturday in Meridian.
Courtney, the daughter of Sean and Rebecca Courtney, competed against 28 other high school seniors, who were each evaluated on scholastic achievement, fitness, self-expression, talent and interview. She also took home the overall award for self-expression.
During the school year, Courtney is a senator in the MSMS Student Government Association and the graphics editor for the MSMS newspaper, The Vision. After graduating, Courtney plans to attend the University of Mississippi to pursue a career in plastic surgery, specializing in pediatric facial reconstruction.
Next June, Courtney will compete in the Distinguished Young Women of 2025 finals in Mobile, Alabama. She will have the opportunity to win a share of more than $100,000 in cash scholarship awards, including the $40,000 national title scholarship award.
