Happy holidays, y’all. I hope you’re resting well after a couple days of family, friends, food and football. We’ve got some great business news heading into the new year, including a new restaurant in Starkville.
The Taco Amigo food truck first opened about five years ago in Columbus. Since then the owner, Isabel Vanegas, has been selling her mother’s famous tamales and various authentic Mexican cuisine while patrons continued to ask for a Starkville location.
Well, ask and you shall receive.
The Taco Amigo restaurant will open by the end of January near Clayton Village at the former Jean Cafe at 12072 Hwy. 182.
Sadly, Jean Cafe closed in 2022, but it is nice to see another family restaurant taking its place.
Though Vanegas doesn’t have definitive hours yet, they will be open Monday through Saturday.
“We are excited to expand and give more people a chance to try some real traditional Mexican food,” Vanegas said. “This has been a dream of ours to be able to open a restaurant. We have had so much support from our Columbus communities and we get so many calls and messages about going to Starkville. We love what we do.”
Keep your eyes on The Taco Amigo food truck’s social media page for more information and restaurant updates!
Moving on, one of Starkville’s pop up shops has closed its doors permanently.
Splurge Starkville, 201 Academy Road Suite 2, announced its closure this week.
Owner Alexia Henig opened Splurge in 2023. Though the shop is closing, folks can still check out its products by shopping online and following the store’s Instagram.
“Thank you so much for being such loyal and amazing customers,” Henig posted on Facebook. “I am forever grateful.”
With 2025 just around the corner, it’s time we start making plans to celebrate closing the door on 2024 and welcoming hopefully a slightly better year than the one before. Check out Rick’s Cafe in Starkville for the Dueling Piano talents of Jason Blake and Blake Scafidel. Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are available at rickscafe.net. Ring in the new year with champagne at midnight!
As for me and my crew, we’ll be settling down at home celebrating surviving another year with tons of twists and turns. Next time you’ll see me, it’ll be 2025. Be safe, don’t drink and drive, have fun and I’ll see you next week!
