There’s a great investment opportunity just by the river.
The property that houses Ruben’s Fish House and Muddy Waters, 171 Moores Creek Road, is for sale priced at $650,000. The property includes 12 acres, a three-bedroom living quarters, a 4,100 square-foot facility and 200-person venue. Ruben Prescott opened the fish and steakhouse in 1955 and the restaurant has been a local favorite since. Ruben’s and Muddy Waters are both owned by Ray Boltwood, who is currently leasing the building and said neither business is up for sale. Boltwood said he loves serving the Columbus community and hopes to remain a staple in Columbus for years to come.
“Muddy Waters and Ruben’s is open until a decision or purchase has been made,” he said.
The property owner, Danny Blakeney, did not wish to comment on the sale, but the property is listed on Facebook Marketplace.
Patio 45, 3255 Hwy. 45, is closed. Eurie Bordenclave, along with her brother and sister-in-law, first opened the restaurant in 2020.
“It’s time for a new journey. But the Patio has been a wonderful part of our community and we want to try and pass it on to someone else who can carry it on,” a post to the business’ Facebook page reads.
Since the post, Patio 45 listed everything for sale, real estate included.
Also in Columbus, there’s a new staffing agency in town. Service Specialist, 410 Main St., held its grand opening last week. The agency first opened in 1967 with locations in Canton, Ridgeland, Oxford and now Columbus. It offers services including human resources services, leadership programs, temporary and permanent employee placement.
Moving to West Point, a new grocery store is on its way. Fresh Value is opening soon at 411 W. Main St. The new grocery store will take the place of Sav-A-Lot which closed permanently in June. The Dispatch did not hear back from store representatives by press time today, but there’s a Fresh Value West Point Facebook page with all the details.
The Alabama-based grocery story has 13 locations and West Point’s store will be the first out-of-state expansion. Once open, folks can grocery shop every day 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fresh Value offers various deals including a $5 steak night on Thursdays and bulk meat deals. The company is currently hiring store managers, co-managers, grocery managers and produce managers. More information is listed on the company’s Facebook page.
“This milestone marks a significant step in our journey, and we can’t wait to bring our unique and affordable shopping experience to the West Point store,” the social media post reads. “As with our other locations, the West Point store will operate on a cost-plus model, providing incredible savings to our customers. This means you’ll find the store’s cost on every price tag, with only 10% added at the register – a straightforward approach that offers unbeatable value on thousands of grocery items.”
The company announced an opening date would be released closer to time, but it expects to open in September.
