Happy New Year, y’all!
I hope everyone celebrated 2024 safely and you’re all ready to start 2025.
In Columbus, we’re kicking things off with a new restaurant holding its soft opening.
Berdina Barry opened 2 Sistas Soul Food at 2012 14th Ave. N. 2 Sistas serves up some classic southern staples like chitterlings, hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, yams, fried okra and more.
“I sell soul food,” Barry said. “I decided to open because cooking is a passion for me and I love doing it. We don’t have too many places in town where you can enjoy southern cooking.”
Barry said since it’s a soft opening and she still has another career, the restaurant’s hours aren’t definitive. You can check out 2 Sistas Soul Food 4-9 p.m. every Friday, 1-7 p.m. on Sundays and occasionally on Wednesdays for lunch. Just check the restaurant’s social media for updates.
Moving over to Starkville, another bar is about to hit the rotation.
The Landing, a new restaurant and bar located at 706 University Drive in the Cotton District, is almost complete. The new rooftop bar and restaurant was announced in 2023 with the demolition of the former University Drive Laundromat. The Landing owner Allen Hodges said he expects to open in either the first or second week of February.
“Excited to bring the nicest bar in (the Southeastern Conference) to Starkville,” Hodges said.
Also in Starkville, Dynamic Restoration Service celebrated its new location in late December at 1404 Fire Station Road. Dynamic Restoration is a locally and family owned, 24/7 emergency mitigation company. The owner, Carter Bentley, is a 2018 Starkville High School graduate who started Dynamic Restoration in 2023 after years of working in the industry.
Lana Bentley, who handles marketing for the company, confirmed the new location. Though it primarily handles water mitigation, the company has expanded to providing exterior pressure washing as well as becoming a subcontractor for large scale commercial demolition jobs.
“We have grown exponentially and look forward to growing more this year and years to come,” Lana Bentley said.
With the new year among us, it’s time to reflect on last year’s progress and shortcomings and make some more resolutions that will hopefully stick this go ‘round.
With resolutions on the mind, I’m sure plenty of y’all are preparing to get those gym memberships undusted and hit the gym again. I know I’m working on doing the same.
With various gyms throughout the Golden Triangle, there’s plenty of options with a couple of New Year’s specials.
Planet Fitness, located in Starkville and Columbus, is offering a New Year’s special until Jan. 10 with startup fees as low as $1 and a no commitment membership. Club 4 Fitness in Starkville is offering similar sign up deals with enrollment fees as low as 25 cents, and I’m sure we’ll see a couple more specials in the coming weeks as we move into the new year. I hope everyone enjoyed their time off this holiday season and we’re all ready for everything coming in 2025.
