Connie’s Chicken has filed a permit for the former Chicken Salad Chick building at 602 Hwy. 12.
The incoming restaurant is a staple in Tupelo opened by Constantine Asters, along with his sons, four decades ago. Since opening, Connie’s has started a regional expansion with locations in Oxford, West Point and soon-to-be Starkville.
Menu items include tenders, chicken sandwiches, bone-in chicken, country fried steak, chicken, sausage biscuits, Connie’s famous blueberry donuts and more.
The Dispatch did not hear back from Connie’s Chicken representatives by press time.
Moving down Highway 82, a Columbus staple is celebrating its new owners.
Golden Horn Seafood and Fine Steaks, 5286 N. Frontage Road, will have a ribbon-cutting at 4 p.m. Oct. 10 to celebrate its new owners.
Marcus and Liza West took ownership of the steakhouse in 2022 but only recently started changing things.
Buying the restaurant wasn’t just a business decision. In high school, Marcus started his journey with Golden Horn as the restaurant’s dishwasher.
“(Marcus) has held every position at the Golden Horn from dishwasher to owner,” Liza said. “To us and especially to him, the Golden Horn is family. … We purchased the Golden Horn because it had been a part of this community since 1969 and like Columbus, it is home to us.”
Patrons may have already seen some of the changes the Wests have made, including a new logo, interior paint, menu, complimentary bread and honey butter before meals, children’s menus and more. The couple have added SEC Saturdays for football fans to enjoy cornhole, a bucket of beer and Golden Horn specials. They will continue to make changes and improvements, so follow along on social media for continual updates.
“While we are making wonderful changes and updates, we are still the Golden Horn that has always served this community,” Liza said. “We hope to see all at the Golden Horn!”
Folks can check out the new ownership and changes 5-10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 4-10 p.m. Saturdays.
Other than October being the start of spooky season, it has also been recognized by Mississippi as careers in construction month.
FORGE, an organization of Golden Triangle companies, is celebrating careers in construction by raising awareness about the industry’s opportunities for skilled trades.
FORGE is hosting the fifth annual FORGE Your Path Career Expo Oct. 23 and 24 at East Mississippi Community College’s Communiversity. The event will introduce more than 2,000 eighth-graders from 12 counties to hands-on experiences in construction.
“We are thrilled to join our partners in celebrating Careers in Construction Month,” FORGE Executive Director Melinda Lowe said in a press release. “Our goal is to forge a future where trades are valued, and this month is the perfect opportunity to showcase the rewarding careers available in the construction industry.”
My parents are celebrating Oktoberfest in Germany this year with my brother, so for those interested in having a prost (German cheers) down south, check out Munson and Brothers, 301 Second Ave. N., this Friday and Saturday.
Moving over to West Point, there’s a new business in town. Elite Physical Therapy, 5721 Hwy. 45 Alt. S., had its ribbon-cutting Wednesday at the Mossy Oak Outlet. With locations already open in Starkville and Columbus, the latest West Point facility hits the third point of the Golden Triangle. Elite Physical Therapy is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. Enjoy the sweater weather (much better than sweat weather) and I’ll see y’all next week!
