WEST POINT – Police arrested a man after he allegedly threatened sporting apparel store employees with a butcher knife in an attempted robbery.
Travonte Dixon, 23, was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted armed robbery, West Point Police Department Detective Mary Huggins told The Dispatch.
Huggins said police received a 911 call at about 2:30 p.m. reporting that someone was attempting to rob the Hibbett Sports store on Highway 45 Alternate in West Point.
Dixon had come into the store with a butcher knife in his pants, Huggins said. He started putting clothes on the counter before walking behind it and demanding the employees bring him more items from the back of the store, she said.
Another customer walked into the store, spooking Dixon, who then left the store. Huggins said one of the workers quickly locked the door behind him and called the police.
But Dixon didn’t leave the store or the area. He repeatedly circled the store attempting to go back inside, Huggins said. When officers arrived at the scene, Dixon was quickly arrested. Huggins said there were no injuries during the incident.
Dixon is being held at the Clay County Detention Center with bond set at $100,000.
